Nancy O'Dell's initial job in the broadcast industry was as a reporter/anchor for WPDE-TV Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Later, she was morning news anchor for WCBD TV and acted as the crime reporter. The journalist's report on the lack of police response towards DUI instances in Charleston resulted in an investigation conducted by the State Law Enforcement Division, that led to a revised direction from the state authorities on DUI cases. Ms. O'Dell was recognized by the Associated Press with the Best Report of the Year Award all media South Carolina. Following her work in Charleston O'Dell served as co-anchor and investigative reporter for the NBC Miami station WTVJ-TV before joining Access Hollywood as a weekend co-anchor and weekday correspondent. O'Dell in addition to being the lead anchor for Access Hollywood, also appears on NBC News Today as well Dateline NBC. She has covered such events as The Oscars The Emmys The Grammys and The Golden Globe Awards as in addition to hosting a series of pre-show arrivals to The Emmys and the Golden Globes. The other shows she has hosted include Miss USA, the Miss USA pageant, and Miss Universe.
